Dr. Calderón brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience across international development, humanitarian assistance, public health, government, and higher education. His career has taken him to more than 30 countries, with a strong focus on strengthening organizations and systems to improve the lives of children, families, and communities in vulnerable situations.
His previous leadership roles include positions with World Vision International, Family Health International, Project HOPE, the Government of Guatemala, and Los Angeles County. As National Director of World Vision El Salvador, he led a child-focused organization of approximately 485 staff and managed a program portfolio exceeding US$17 million.
A physician trained at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, Dr. Calderón holds a Master of Public Health from UCLA and has undertaken postgraduate training at several leading U.S. universities. He is also an educator and author, with more than 75 publications and numerous honors recognizing his contributions to global health, education, and development.
Based in Guatemala City, Dr. Calderón will work closely with NPH International CEO Michael McCabe, NPH International teams, National Directors, and Fundraising Offices. As COO, he will focus on strengthening coordination, operational effectiveness, and financial sustainability across the organization.
His leadership will support NPH’s work across its three complementary areas of care: residential care, community-based care, and pediatric care, helping ensure that NPH’s resources, people, and systems are effectively supporting children, young people, and families.
