Mexico
Our Story
NPH Mexico is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, empowering, and strengthening children, adolescents, and their families. Inspired by the vision of Father William B. Wasson, NPH was founded in 1954 in Cuernavaca, Morelos, after Father Wasson welcomed a young boy who had been arrested for stealing food. That single act of compassion became the first *Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos* home and laid the foundation for an organization that has since transformed the lives of thousands of vulnerable children in Mexico and across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Over the decades, NPH Mexico has grown into a comprehensive network of residential, educational, healthcare, and community-based programs. While continuing its commitment to providing a safe, loving home for children in need, the organization has expanded its work to include family strengthening, education, and opportunities that help children and young people build independent, fulfilling futures. Today, NPH Mexico remains committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by supporting children, families, and communities with dignity, compassion, and long-term care.
Our Core Areas of Focus
Family and Community Strengthening
NPH Mexico provides children and young people with safe, caring, family-like environments where they receive individualized support while becoming more connected to the communities around them. At Casa Buen Señor in Cuernavaca, children and young people live in smaller groups with dedicated caregivers, while participating in local schools, activities, and community life.
Support continues as young people move towards greater independence, including through a home for university students in Monterrey. Whenever it is safe and appropriate, NPH also works with children and their families towards family reintegration, helping them rebuild relationships and strengthen the support networks they need to thrive.
Education
Education at NPH Mexico is closely connected to the wider community. Children attend local schools in Cuernavaca, giving them opportunities to learn, build friendships, and participate in everyday community life. As they progress in their education, young people can attend NPH Mexico’s bachillerato school, combining their academic studies with practical workshops that help them develop new skills and prepare for the future.
NPH continues to support young people as they move into higher education, helping them pursue university studies and take the next steps towards greater independence.
Health and Wellness
Health and well-being are an important part of everyday life at NPH Mexico. At Casa Buen Señor in Cuernavaca, an on-site clinic provides children and young people with primary healthcare, regular health monitoring, and support with their day-to-day health needs. Nutrition services and mental health support form part of this wider approach to well-being. When specialized treatment is needed, NPH works with healthcare providers in the wider community to ensure children and young people can access the care they need.
Youth and Economic Empowerment
NPH Mexico equips adolescents and young adults, including those with disabilities, with the skills and opportunities needed to achieve greater independence. At the NPH bachillerato school, young people can take part in practical workshops and develop skills in areas such as cuisine, and tourism. Through life skills training, inclusive employment preparation, and partnerships with local employers, NPH Mexico helps young people transition successfully into the workforce and build sustainable futures.
