Peru

Our Story

NPH Peru began its work in 2004 to provide care, protection, and opportunities for children and adolescents living in vulnerable circumstances. Today, its family-style home in San Vicente de Cañete offers a safe environment where children receive education, healthcare, emotional support, and the tools they need to build independent, fulfilling lives.

In recent years, NPH Peru has strengthened its family-based care model while expanding its impact beyond residential care. Through the Padre Wasson Community Family Centre, the organization supports vulnerable families with education, health, youth empowerment, and family strengthening programs, helping children thrive within safe, supportive communities.

Our Core Areas of Focus

Family and Community Strengthening

NPH Peru works with families to strengthen relationships, promote positive parenting, and create safer, more supportive home environments. When children or adolescents are unable to live safely with their families, NPH provides a caring, family-like environment at its home in the Cañete community, with individualized support in education, health, nutrition, and everyday life. Whenever it is safe and appropriate, NPH works with children and their families towards reintegration, helping strengthen the relationships and support networks they need to stay together.

Education

Education is an important part of NPH Peru’s support for children and young people, both in residential care and in the wider community. NPH supports access to primary and secondary education, fully covering educational costs for residential students. Tutoring and remedial support help reduce dropout rates, while adolescents are encouraged to pursue technical or higher education through state-sponsored scholarships, school supplies, and partial financial aid.

Health and Wellness

NPH Peru’s healthcare team provides primary healthcare, referrals, and follow-up support, complemented by a psychology team offering therapy, workshops, and emotional support. Community health initiatives include dental, ophthalmological, and psychological services, help accessing public health insurance, nutrition programs, and sports workshops promoting active, healthy lifestyles.

Youth and Economic Empowerment

NPH Peru prepares young people for independent adulthood through vocational guidance, life skills, financial education, and socio-emotional development. In the wider community, NPH also supports young people and families with limited access to higher education through vocational workshops and entrepreneurship training, helping them develop new skills, create opportunities to earn an income, and build greater economic independence.
