Hello everyone, my name is Vita* and I am 8 years old. I am part of this great NPH family in the Dominican Republic, and it’s a pleasure for me to share my story.
I was admitted to the Niños de Dios home in February 2020, referred by the provincial office of CONANI in Monte Plata after being found in a situation of risk and abandonment. My mother and grandmother could not ensure my complete care for many reasons, especially financial ones. My grandfather, who was elderly, visited me at the home for a long time, but due to his health condition, he could not continue visiting me regularly.
In 2022, he passed away due to health complications, leaving me in the care of the transition home in Monte Plata, which is why I was transferred to the residential home of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos on January 3, 2023.
I am a child with achondroplasia (dwarfism), and I previously suffered from chronic adenotonsillitis among other complications. It’s important to note that due to my condition, I often had colds, difficulty breathing, and trouble sleeping.
As soon as NPH noticed these difficulties, they referred me to a pediatric dentist and an ear, nose, and throat specialist, who is essential for treating tonsillitis. He was able to provide a precise diagnosis, prescribe the right medications, and perform procedures if necessary to effectively treat the condition.
After undergoing all the recommended procedures, I had surgery for adenoidectomy. A month after the surgery, I truly began to feel completely happy. I experienced a significant improvement.
Thanks to the surgical intervention and the healthcare team at NPH, today, Vita* is a child who no longer suffers from frequent colds, ensuring a better quality of life by being able to breathe better and sleep more peacefully.
Seeing the improvement in this child fills us with satisfaction and joy. More than anything, it makes us happy to see her happy.
