NPH Peru continues to work towards providing comprehensive medical services focused on prevention and basic healthcare for children and adolescents. As part of their protection initiatives, the clinic area regularly conducts talks on preventive health.

Due to the high number of confirmed dengue cases as of March 2024—113,692 cases nationwide, according to the situational update issued by the National Center for Epidemiology, Prevention, and Disease Control (CDC Peru) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa)—the prevention talks focused on dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that poses a serious public health problem in many regions of the country.

The main goal of these talks was to provide children and adolescents with information about preventive measures and to raise awareness in their communities about the disease. The aim is to reduce the risk of infection and contribute to improving the overall health and well-being of the community.

The professionals from the clinic area educated and raised awareness among the children and adolescents about the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus transmitted by the *Aedes aegypti* mosquito. As of March 2024, this viral infection had resulted in 1,992 confirmed cases in the province of Cañete, where the NPH Peru home is located.

Cynthia Flores, a doctor in the clinical department, provided detailed information on how to recognize the symptoms of dengue. She also shared the most effective preventive measures, such as identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites, installing window screens, using insect repellent, and keeping spaces clean to prevent the proliferation of mosquito vectors.

These preventive measures come after the Peruvian government declared a public health emergency in 20 of the country’s 24 regions in late February. This emergency declaration was a response to the surge in dengue cases and the overwhelming of the healthcare system in the most affected regions.

According to Decree No. 005-2024-SA published in the Official Gazette *El Peruano*, the Ministry of Health, national health institutions, and local health authorities are required to “carry out immediate actions” to prevent and ensure the treatment of dengue cases. This includes acquiring the necessary goods and services to address the epidemic’s impact.

NPH Peru joins the efforts to combat this epidemic and reaffirms its commitment to promoting health and preventing dengue.
