We are a big family

In a remote lowland village surrounded by trees and expansive green fields, resides the ninth NPH home, CASA Padre Wasson. The Bolivian NPH family began in April 2005 at a small home in Santa Cruz. Now it has expanded to their own property in the countryside with 12 family-style homes that house almost 100 children (five homes for boys, five for girls and one for the babies) and four additional houses that host volunteers and employees.

In 2008, the NPH family moved from Santa Cruz to our current home. Six houses hosted the children and staff at this time. Two more homes were constructed in 2010 to receive new family members. Construction of a community clinic and four classrooms for primary students were completed in 2013. In addition, three houses for volunteers, visitors and staff members were built till 2014. In the following year, a second school building, baby house and a house for the older girls was added. In 2016, a fish farm was successfully completed and the milking cow project was opened in 2021, currently producing milk and dairy products.

NPH Bolivia is fortunate to be near the community of San Ignacio, where our secondary children attend school. The home is proud to have fourteen university students (three males and eleven female) who are living in the Santa Cruz capital city. Our on-site School William Wasson receives students from NPH and near communities from first through sixth grade.

Our home has a self-sustainable project, which includes: Milky cow barn, fish farming, vegetable framing and trainings for milk processing. This project benefits more than 100 children and allows our children to access to healthy and secure food. We are grateful for having a expand area where young children learn growing their own produce providing for internal consumption of: cassava, corn, banana, papaya, citrus and other fruits and vegetables.

Being the newest NPH home, the family is still working on many projects. Creating a sustainable agriculture and animal production project is one goal. This would grant the home more independence of the high food prices and these programs help to involve youths in the production and planning process.

NPH Bolivia is led by National Director Patricia Rueda and employs 49 local staff.

“The philosophy of Father Wasson is the engine that drives our work. His philosophy tells us to bring the Gospel to life. Father Wasson understood very well that it is the day-to-day work to which we are called.”

EDUCATION

Education is the main tool to break the cycle of poverty, that is the reason at NPH Bolivia, we have a complete staff to motivate and develop the learning of our children and youth. At NPH Bolivia we have an elementary school from 1st to 6th grade within our home, which is attends more than 25 students and staffed by more than 6 education and pedagogy professionals.

As Father William Wasson put it in his philosophy; “Education will lift my children out of the poverty in which they were born” at NPH Bolivia we know that university education is the last and perhaps the most important link in professional formation, through which young men and women consolidate their independence and become active members of the community.

Art and culture are also tools for learning and social understanding, so they are clearly related to education. At NPH we have the “Createens” project, which fosters artistic, personal and cultural development through musical activities, visual expression, dance, personal care and beauty.

In Bolivia, NPH Bolivia has the Dairy, Fish Farming and Agriculture programs, which in addition to producing food for better nutrition, also allow us to provide practical and theoretical training on agriculture, livestock and animal care.

This knowledge and skills allow them to be better prepared for independent life and give them the tools to opt for job opportunities at the technical level.

All adolescents and young people over the age of 13 can access the training courses where they learn:

To provide vocational guidance to those who are interested in Technical Education as a preparation to join productive processes and as a tool for independent living.

Broaden educational horizons, providing training for life, through practical experiences.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

At NPH Bolivia we are concerned with educating our children in the faith and Christian principles, thus creating the basis for their moral development and guided by principles that reinforce their rights and strengthen their responsibilities and commitments to build a better world.

Spiritual development is key to their wellbeing, as it helps them find a sense of life and belonging, which is why at NPH we work from an early age on Christian values and carry out activities that strengthen the spirit of collaboration and service to the community.
