Position Description:
The social work assistant supports the social workers in the community. We support children, adolescents, persons with disabilities and their families in communities who are in situations of exclusion and extreme poverty to strengthen positive family ties and to promote good mental health, resilience, development and well-being of families and communities. The work includes socioeconomic household analysis, developing and implementing plans for assistance for children, youths and their families, trainings on children’s rights and inclusion among other themes. Other work areas might include facilitating youth’s empowerment groups and promoting gender equity and strengthening families through parental education in child and youth development, positive discipline and integral sexual education. Additionally in cooperation with other organizations support and training for teachers, health and community workers and the promotion of children’s rights, gender equity and inclusion in the communities.
Position Requirements:
- Qualified candidates must have a university degree in social work or closely related subjects.
- Professional experience in working with children and youths in community work and especially with families is highly desirable.
- Successful volunteers at NPH have strong leadership skills, are resilient and flexible, and work well in teams.
Language Requirements:
Strong Spanish language skills are critical for success as a volunteer with NPH. NPH tests Spanish language skills of candidates invited for an interview. Applicants who do not have an adequate level of Spanish will be required to attend immersion school prior to beginning service with NPH at their own expense.
Age Requirements:
NPH accepts volunteers at least 21 years of age or older.
