My name is Carlos Ramírez, I am 23 years old, and consider myself cheerful and passionate about what I do. Since I was a child, I felt a special connection with nature thanks to the example my grandfather – who worked in agriculture – set for me. That inspiration led me to study Agricultural Engineering, a degree that combines multiple topics I deeply enjoy: crops and livestock, science, technology, and the food production that contributes so much to the lives of people.

Before receiving support from Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH), my family and I were going through difficult times, especially financially. There was a lot of worry about how I would continue my studies. It was thanks to a close sister from church that we heard about NPH El Salvador’s scholarship program. We decided to apply, and thanks to God’s grace, I was accepted. From that moment on, my life changed: I found a place that supported me and gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. For my family and me, it was a true blessing, a respite in the midst of difficulties.

My time at university was not easy. As a student, I faced many academic and personal challenges. However, the support NPH provided me was a constant motivation to keep going. I will always fondly remember my family, the social worker who accompanied me every step of the way through the paperwork and procedures, and Neftalí Leivas (Community Services Coordinator), who always looked out for me.

One of the most significant moments in my training was the opportunity to intern in NPH’s crop management department. I learned a lot hands-on, from managing different types of crops to taking care of harvests. Beyond the technical aspects, it was valuable to interact with the workers, learn from their experience, and reaffirm values like humility and honesty. Giving my best in every task was my way of expressing my gratitude for everything NPH did for me.

Today, just a few steps away from graduating from university, I feel happy and excited. I dream of having a good job, starting my own business, and raising a family. But I also want to give back and be able to contribute in the same way that NPH helped me, sharing my knowledge with younger generations, sharing my knowledge on the subject, and supporting communities to improve their production.

For my part, I would tell all young people looking for an opportunity to never lose faith in God or in themselves. Sometimes situations seem impossible, but there is always an open door: everything has a solution.

Finally, I am infinitely grateful to all the people and donors who made this educational support possible. Thank you for believing in me, for giving me the opportunity to belong to this great family, and for giving so much not only to me, but to so many children. May God bless you and reward you for all the good you have done.

Stories like Carlos’s remind us that education is a seed of hope. It carries the potential to change not just the life of a young person, but also that of their family and community. Through the Father Wasson Community Scholarship Program, NPH provides youth empowerment and opens paths to a future full of opportunities, where every effort and every dream can become a reality.
