I am a clinical psychologist and financial administrator. Throughout my life I have had the opportunity to work and share with different communities, experiences that have taught me deeply the value of empathy, service and the importance of accompanying others in their personal and family processes. I decided to volunteer at NPH because I felt a genuine desire to put my knowledge and time at the service of a cause that transforms lives in a real and sustained way. I was especially motivated by its family, human and spiritual approach, where children and youth not only receive material support, but also love, education and emotional accompaniment.
I currently live at NPH Dominican Republic, located in a rural area about ten minutes from San Pedro de Macoris. In front of the home is the Batey Nuevo and, around it, extensive sugar cane fields. It is a place surrounded by nature, with abundant vegetation, trees and wide spaces that invite to live, play and share. I live in a house close to the children, which allows me to be present also in my free time and strengthen the bonds with them from the daily life.
My days at NPH start early. After breakfast I organize my activities, which may include psychological accompaniment of youths, home visits, interviews with beneficiaries of the San Marcos outreach program, meetings with the team or participation in home activities. Although each day is different, they all have something in common: close contact with the children and collaborative work with other volunteers and caregivers, which makes each day meaningful and enriching.
I actively participate in the program of attention to beneficiaries of the San Marcos extension, where we accompany people who receive different types of support, such as physical therapies, financial aid, medicines or basic purchases. This work has allowed me to get to know closely the realities and needs of many families, and to offer them an integral, human and respectful accompaniment. In addition, I am part of a project in agreement with NPH Italia focused on breast cancer prevention, through educational and awareness activities that promote health and self-care in the communities. I also participate in a new project that seeks to involve mothers who are heads of households in Batey Nuevo in sustainable agriculture initiatives, offering them work opportunities and strengthening their autonomy. In a very special way, I accompany young people who are in their last year of service, providing them with psychological support and guidance in this important transition stage of their lives.
I believe the impact of NPH on the children is profound and transformative. By providing them with a safe, loving and responsible environment, the children begin to experience an authentic family experience. At NPH they feel protected, listened to and loved; they know that they are part of something bigger, of a family that supports them and accompanies them in their growth. This sense of belonging allows them to develop confidence, hope and the ability to dream of a different future full of possibilities.
