My name is Rosa Osorio, known as tía Rosy, and many years ago, when I was just 20, I had the privilege of joining this great family that Father Wasson formed.

I remember arriving a little nervous, but with dreams and a great desire to learn… but what I did not know was that, more than a job, I was about to receive a life lesson.

Father Wasson taught us not only with words, but also with examples. His way of listening, his way of seeing through and appreciating each child’s uniqueness, left a lasting impression on me. He believed that love was more powerful than any difficulty. And he conveyed that love in simple gestures: a warm greeting, timely advice, a smile that cheered us up on difficult days.

I remember the times when, during moments of exhaustion, he would tell us: “Do not forget that here we work with hearts, not just hands.” He made every child he welcomed feel like his own. I was blessed to see him turn tears into smiles. And those are images that remain etched in my soul.

In the hallways, at celebrations, on quiet afternoons… his presence was a guiding light. Many of us learned to be better people thanks to him.

Sometimes I think his greatest achievement was not the buildings or the programs, but the lives he touched. And among those lives, of course, is mine.

At such a young age, he taught me the value of patience and dedication. He taught me that serving is a privilege; that caring for a child is caring for the future; that no matter how great a task, there is always room for a gesture of love.

Father Wasson left us a legacy that transcends time. Today, even though he is no longer with us in person, I feel his presence in every child’s laughter and every act of kindness. His voice continues to resonate in my heart, reminding me that true love is that which is given without expecting anything in return.

I want to thank God for allowing me to cross paths with his; I also want to thank everyone who is part of this mission for keeping his work and spirit alive.

At 20, I got a job…and found a family. I found a mentor, a friend, and a role model.

Thank you, Father Wasson, for everything you were, are, and will continue to be for me.

We will always remember you; we will always love you.
